2020 Here We Come!!

Thank you for the opportunity to serve again as the SHRM Hawaii State Council Director.  I am thrilled and excited to share with our members some of the fantastic work that is being done to further elevate our profession. 

Our theme for 2020 is “We are BETTER together”.  With all of us working together, we can impact our co-workers, peers, organizations and the community at large! 

On a national level SHRM Hawaii continues to have a presence:

  • Mandy Woulfe, SHRM-SCP is one of six Member Advisory Committee (MAC) representatives in the US. She represents the Pacific West Region for SHRM National (Alaska, California, Hawaii, Nevada, Guam, CNMI, Idaho, Montana, Oregon, Washington and Wyoming).

  • Lina Le, SHRM-SCP is one of fifteen members for SHRM National on the Young Professionals Advisory Committee.

Congratulations to both Mandy and Lina for representing Hawaii!

  • SHRM Hawaii continues to grow our certification program. We had 14 students complete the fall 2019 certification courses through the University of Hawaii College Outreach Program.  There are now 103 SHRM-SCP and 154 SHRM-CP HR professionals in the State of Hawaii.

  • State Conference – professional development and networking with colleagues. We continue to grow in attendance each year and are looking for additional opportunities to increase conference participation. Thank you to all of our sponsors and exhibitors who continue to support SHRM Hawaii!

  • SHRM National Conference is scheduled for June 28th through July 1st in San Diego, California. Early bird rates are available through April 24th.   Tips and tools to gain approval to attend:  https://annual.shrm.org/convince-your-boss

  • Membership - we will strive to enhance the value of SHRM Hawaii membership through networking, professional development and increasing volunteer opportunities. As of December 31, 2019, our Chapter included ____ members.

  • In preparation for January 2021, our Workforce Development Committee is launching the HR Executive Leadership Program (HRELP) later this year. This six-month program (January – June 2021) will focus on the following areas:

    • Session 1 – Understanding Self and Emotional Intelligence that will include the Hogan Leadership Assessment and a 1:1 coaching session

    • Session 2 – Understanding Change Management and Leading Through Change

    • Session 3 – Upskilling Strategic Leadership and Business Acumen

    • Session 4 – Strategic and Critical Thinking

    • Session 5 – Bridging HR/Sales & Marketing

    • Session 6 – Capstone Presentation and Graduation Ceremony

Program Cost:  $3,500 per person

  • Emerging Professionals – We have a growing and excited group of active Emerging Professionals who meet on a monthly basis. If you are new to the HR profession or a seasoned HR Professional who is interested in mentoring a EP, this is a great committee to join!

  • Communications & Marketing – we are looking to add website enhancements in 2020. Please stay tuned!

  • Legislative, SHRM Foundation & Research, Executive Professionals, Compliance and the SHRM Hawaii Education Foundation are all working on projects and programs to help elevate and enhance membership services.

The SHRM Hawaii Board of Directors is excited about 2020!  If you are looking to further enhance your HR career and increase networking opportunities, we invite you to get involved in SHRM Hawaii.  You will meet fantastic colleagues who are passionate about advancing and serving the HR Profession!
